Baby safeing

We had to install some kitchen cabinet safety measures, as Eliana was LOVING to open them and pull out whatever was inside. The highest priority cabinet was the one furthest away from where we usually operate in the kitchen (it was by the fridge and dining table), as it is filled with various glass bowls and the like and is hardest for us to monitor. It was therefore also a favorite of hers, as she could get away with rummaging around inside there for the longest stretches of time (probably a minute max, usually 15-30 sec). She had pulled one of the bowls out once, the heaviest and largest, which shattered when it bonked to the floor, so getting the safety on was a top priority for us.

She watched me sit and sweat getting the hook-thing installed, and when I walked away she excitedly went for it. The look of consternation and “what the h*ll’s going on here!” when she was only able to open it a couple centimeters was clear. She was not impressed. Especially when repeated tries resulted in the same sudden stop. So she moved on to another cupboard.

Over the next couple days she saw me install one after the other, and she got into the short-lived habit of heading straight to the cabinets she knew were still her territory each time she went into the kitchen to confirm her facts were still facts, and was equally unimpressed each time she realized one or more of them had been tampered with.

We ended up leaving the pots cabinet for her though, because the joy she gets from being able to open it and pull stuff out is just too precious to take away completely.
