Oh how we long for some stability in our lives. That is in fact our main goal in this next phase, that when we get to Taiwan and discuss with Judge’s dad what life and options look like over there (in terms of helping with the business), we will be able to make a semi-long-term plan for ourselves. No more a year here or a year there to ‘check things out’. We want to really actually stay in one place for at least five years, with the perception that it is permanent … with flexibility.
Though we have a certain long-term plan thought out in our minds in terms of living in Taiwan when the kids are in elementary school so they learn Mandarin, and then in Norway for middle and high school as we like the educational system here better, I think it is important to focus on the now, as in building up a life where we’re at, trying to make friends and create a sense of permanence, even if it doesn’t end up being 15-20 years in one place.
Anyhow, so with this longing for stability also comes a longing for our own home. A home with a nice big room we can make into a dance- and play-room, a big kitchen with lots of counter space and good cooking equipment, easy access to the great outdoors…whether we buy a place in Taiwan or in Norway first, we are hoping to be able to do it within the next two years or so at least. Mortgage here we come!
